  1. Advocacy for Diaspora Voting Rights:
  • Lobby the Nigerian government to enact policies that grant Nigerians in the diaspora the legal right to vote in national elections.
  • Partner with legal experts and electoral reform organizations to push for legislative amendments and international standards to enable diaspora voting.

 

  1. Creation of Ministerial Portfolio and Legislative Representation:
  • Campaign for the establishment of a Minister for Diaspora Affairs, a portfolio that will serve as a bridge between the diaspora community and the Nigerian government and the Minister must be a diaspora Nigerian.
  • Advocate for the creation of 3 senatorial and 6 House of Representatives seats dedicated to representing Nigerians in diaspora, ensuring their interests are considered in the legislative process.

 

  1. Formation of a Non-Partisan Diaspora Organization:
  • Establish an inclusive, non-partisan organization that transcends tribal, religious, and political affiliations, focused solely on governance, accountability, and active diaspora engagement.
  • Promote the idea that members are encouraged to join any political party but must uphold the organization’s core values of integrity, transparency, and national development.

 

  1. Building Political Capacity through a PAC??:
  • Create a Political Action Committee (PAC) that raises funds to support diaspora candidates running for office in Nigeria, regardless of their political party, tribe, or religion, as long as they align with the organization’s governance and accountability objectives.
  • Utilize funds to support political education and leadership training for Nigerians in the diaspora interested in running for office or influencing policy.

 

  1. Engagement and Mobilization:
  • Develop educational programs and campaigns to increase political awareness and engagement among Nigerians in the diaspora.
  • Partner with international democratic bodies to observe and contribute to the electoral process in Nigeria, ensuring transparency and fairness.

 

  1. Building a Global Network:
  • Create a global network of diaspora professionals, leveraging their expertise, financial power, and influence to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic and governance institutions.
  • Foster collaboration between diaspora members and Nigerian political leaders to share innovative ideas, strategies, and development models.

 

  1. Nigerian Diaspora Election Commission (NDEC):
  • Establish an independent entity dedicated to ensuring the full participation of Nigerians living abroad in national elections.
  • Develop a seamless, user-friendly platform where non-resident Nigerians can easily register
    for voting rights, ensuring their engagement in Nigeria’s democratic process.
  • This platform will serve as the central hub for Nigerians abroad to verify their eligibility, stay informed on electoral processes, and cast their votes in national elections.
